Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) facelift is a non-invasive and safe rejuvenation treatment. It uses blood plasma to rejuvenate the skin. This is why it is sometimes also called a “vampire facelift.”
PRP treatment is completely safe as it is autologous – meaning it uses your own blood and hence there are no chances of cross-infection or allergies.
It essentially involves making a concentrate of platelets in plasma and using it to rejuvenate the skin. The growth factors released from the platelets in this process stimulate the stem cells of the skin to make new cells as well as making new supporting fibrils like collagen and elastin which help to give the skin a tighter and more fresh look with even skin tone.
Indications for PRP treatment on the face include:
- Sun-damaged skin
- Sunspots (freckles)
- Wrinkles, fine lines, scars on the face, neck, and hands
- Loose skin
- Crow’s feet
- Dark circles under the eyes
- Dull and rough skin tone and texture
- Acne scarring
It is an office procedure, usually taking around an hour to perform and the patients are free to leave the clinic.
PRP therapy can always be combined with Microneedling to get the optimum out of the treatment as micro needling to helps boost the stimulation of collagen by initiating the wound healing process.
Redness and swelling may be noticeable for 2-3 days but it is nothing, which will keep the patient from doing daily chores. It is inevitable to use a good sunscreen during the healing period and continue for at least a month after the PRP procedure.
It roughly takes over a month for optimum results to be evident also after which successive sittings can be planned.
